End Times Beliefs Quiz: What Do You Believe?

If this question keeps coming back to you, you already take Christ's return more seriously than most, and you want to know where your own picture of the end came from.

The Catholic Church teaches that Christ returns once, visibly, at the end of history, after a final trial of the Church, and it rejects the hope of a kingdom fulfilled within history (CCC 675-677). Answer six questions to see which of the four main Christian views of the millennium your beliefs sit closest to, and how each answer compares with the Catechism.

Do Catholics believe in the rapture?

Catholics believe the faithful will be caught up to meet the Lord at his return, as Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 4:17, and the Catechism places this at the last day, together with the resurrection of the dead (CCC 1001). The Church does not teach a separate, secret rapture before a tribulation. That idea took shape in the 1830s. Our guide to the rapture sets out each view.

What is the Catholic view of the millennium?

The Catholic Church rejects millenarianism, the belief in a kingdom fulfilled within history, even in modified forms (CCC 676). Following Augustine, it reads the thousand years of Revelation 20 as the reign of Christ with his Church now. This reading is usually called amillennialism. See the millennium explained.

Does the Catholic Church say when the end will come?

No. The Catechism says Christ's coming could happen at any moment and that only the Father knows the day and the hour (CCC 673, 1040), as Jesus said in Mark 13:32. The Church asks for readiness every day and sets no dates.

Is this quiz only for Catholics?

Anyone can take it. Each of the four views is described the way its own holders state it, with a source, and every answer shows the Catholic position beside yours so you can compare them fairly.
